September Reading List

Can y'all believe that it is the end of September already? How crazy is that? Like I do at the end of (almost) every month, I am sharing my September Reading List. I have been in the mood to read lately and I have been doing a lot at night instead of sitting on my phone to decompress from my day. I feel like the theme of this month is very much woman power and country music love, you will see why when you see the list.

If y'all have any books that you think I should try out, please comment those down below because I am always on the hunt for new things to read. What have y'all been reading lately?

~THIS IS NOT A FASHION STORY: Taking Chances, Breaking Rules, and Being a Boss in the Big City BY: DANIELLE BERNSTEIN |/| Danielle Bernstein spent her youth shopping at discount department stores, getting boozy in suburban backyards and proposing marriage to every boy she dated. By age nineteen, she was a college dropout living in a West Village shoebox with three roommates and only six months to prove that her blog, @WeWoreWhat, could become a full-blown career… or else board the train back to her mom’s house. This Is Not A Fashion Story is the down and dirty tale of how a Long Island-born teenager became one of the most recognizable names in fashion. It’s a story that proves success isn’t about a college degree or how rich your parents are. It’s about trusting your gut, knowing when to take risks, and fighting to get what you want in life, love, and business. But above all, it’s the story of how a young girl made in the concrete jungle that is New York City—and how you can too.

~LIVE IN LOVE: Growing Together Through Life's Changes BY: LAUREN AKINS |/| In Live in Love, Lauren shares details about her childhood friendship with Thomas Rhett, explaining how they reconnected as young adults. She offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the challenges of being married to her best friend, who just happens to be a music star, and the struggle to find her own footing in the frenzy of her husband’s fame. And in heart-wrenching detail, she opens up about her life-changing experiences doing mission work in Haiti, and then in Uganda, where she met the precious baby who would become their first daughter. From sharing the romance of their handwritten wedding vows to the challenges they faced as they adjusted to the reality of becoming first-time parents, Live in Love takes an intimate look at one couple’s life—and opens a window into all of our journeys on the path to self-discovery.

~JUST FEED ME BY: JESSIE JAMES DECKER |/|  In this, her first cookbook, Jessie goes even further, opening her kitchen cabinets and inviting fans to sit for a spell and enjoy a great meal at the Decker dinner table. Just Feed Me gives fans what they want—simply delicious meals from the heart.  Jessie shares down-home and simple-to-make recipes for drinks, appetizers, and full dinners—many Italian, Southern, and Cajun dishes that were handed down to her from her mom. She also offers advice and inspiration for creating the warm, appealing scents and savory feel of her own kitchen, the heart of her household.

~SHOE DOG BY: PHIL KNIGHT |/| In Shoe Dog, Phil Knight, creator of Nike, tells his story at last. At twenty-four, Knight decides that rather than work for a big corporation, he will create something all his own, new, dynamic, different. He details the many risks he encountered, the crushing setbacks, the ruthless competitors, and hostile bankers—as well as his many thrilling triumphs. Above all, he recalls the relationships that formed the heart and soul of Nike, with his former track coach, the irascible and charismatic Bill Bowerman, and with his first employees, a ragtag group of misfits and savants who quickly became a band of swoosh-crazed brothers. Together, harnessing the electrifying power of a bold vision and a shared belief in the transformative power of sports, they created a brand—and a culture—that changed everything.

~ACT LIKE A LADY: Questionable Advice, Ridiculous Opinions, and Humiliating Tales from Three Undignified Women BY: KELTIE KNIGHT, BECCA TOBIN, & JAC VANEK |/| If you're tired of being bombarded with the curated perfection on social media and you're starving for something raw, honest, and a little bit messy, welcome to the LadyGang. Keltie, Becca, and Jac are here to clear away the bullshit and give you the confidence to live your best lady life. Unabashedly sincere, clever, and full of questionable advice, Act Like a Lady explores the complexities surrounding topics like body image, breakups, navigating a career, and adult friendships through their own embarrassing experiences. The LadyGang has your back with essays like "Maybe She's Born with It, Maybe It's Photoshop" and "If You're Happy and You Know It, Thank Your Ex." You'll learn there's a million different ways to be a lady—and that includes accidentally farting during sex or having the guts to tell your friend she's being a selfish assh*le. No matter what you're going through, you'll find a space to bond over the sloppy, heartbreaking, joyous, and often ridiculous realities of womanhood. Nothing is TMI here.
