Do y'all ever get like that with a book?
Well down below are the books that I read for the month of August and I hope y'all find something new to read or a book that sounds interesting to you. If you want to check something out you can click right on the name and see where to get it. Happy reading!
What have y'all been reading recently? Do y'all have any good book recommendations that I should try out?
~THE MISTER BY: E L JAMES | Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face. But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past. Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own? E L James is one of my favorite authors because she obviously created my favorite trilogy of books and that is of course Fifty Shades of Grey! I was thrilled when she announced that she was releasing a new book but sad that it took me this long to read it. The Mister is definitely different from Fifty Shades of Grey but keeps you on your toes. It is a love story but a love story that isn't quite normal! Definitely a good book to read!
~THE MATCHMAKER'S LIST BY: SONYA LALLI | One devoted modern girl + a meddlesome, traditional grandmother = a heartwarming multicultural romantic comedy about finding love where you least expect it. Raina Anand may have finally given in to family pressure and agreed to let her grandmother play matchmaker, but that doesn't mean she has to like it—or that she has to play by the rules. Nani always took Raina's side when she tried to push past the traditional expectations of their tight-knit Indian-immigrant community, but now she's ambushing Raina with a list of suitable bachelors. Is it too much to ask for a little space? Besides, what Nani doesn't know won't hurt her... As Raina's life spirals into a parade of Nani-approved bachelors and disastrous blind dates, she must find a way out of this modern-day arranged-marriage trap without shattering her beloved grandmother's dreams. Getting a look into a culture that I do not know a whole lot about is very eye opening to me. Before reading The Matchmaker's List, I was not completely informed into how the Indian culture went about arranged marriages or what it was like at all. Getting to read this story about how Raina has to find someone, in a way that is not normal to other cultures, is informative and makes you feel emotions that you wouldn't typically feel when reading a book.
~THE PROPOSAL BY: JASMINE GUILLORY | When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn't come as a surprise—or happen in front of 45,000 people. When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn't the hard part—they've only been dating for five months, and he can’t even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans...At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik’s rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He’s even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik’s social media blows up—in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can't be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex. But when their glorified hookups start breaking the rules, one of them has to be smart enough to put on the brakes... Alright so I am truly invested in every book that Jasmine Guillory writes because there is just a style in her writing that makes her books so fun and interesting to read! Now these are a not a series of books but they are related in that the characters from one book are carried over into the other books. Confusing, apologizes thats just the easiest way to put it. The Proposal is so funny and witty and the things that these people go through are so relatable on a whole lot of levels. Seriously y'all, definitely go check out Jasmine Guillory's books because they are amazing!
~99 STORIES OF THE GAME BY: WAYNE GRETZKY | From minor-hockey phenomenon to Hall of Fame sensation, Wayne Gretzky rewrote the record books, his accomplishments becoming the stuff of legend. Dubbed “The Great One,” he is considered by many to be the greatest hockey player who ever lived. No one has seen more of the game than he has—but he has never discussed in depth just what it was he saw.For the first time, Gretzky discusses candidly what the game looks like to him and introduces us to the people who inspired and motivated him: mentors, teammates, rivals, the famous and the lesser known. Weaving together lives and moments from an extraordinary career, he reflects on the players who inflamed his imagination when he was a kid, the way he himself figured in the dreams of so many who came after; takes us onto the ice and into the dressing rooms to meet the friends who stood by him and the rivals who spurred him to greater heights; shows us some of the famous moments in hockey history through the eyes of someone who regularly made that history.Warm, direct, and revelatory, it is a book that gives us number 99, the man and the player, like never before. I know what you are all thinking, Oh great another hockey book! This is not just any hockey book. 1. It is written by one of the greatest hockey players to play the game and whether you know the game or not, you know the name Gretzky, and 2. It takes you through a history of hockey past, present, and a little bit of foreshadowing the future, that not a lot of people know about! Even though this is my favorite sport, I was so interested in the experiences that Wayne Gretzky talks about with himself but with other players around the world who play the game and the teams that started, what we know as the NHL today!
~STEVE JOBS BY: WALTER ISAACSON | Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. Isaacson’s portrait touched millions of readers. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. His friends, foes, and colleagues offer an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted. I love to read biographies because it lets you get an eye into the lives of people that you wouldn't normally get to talk or interact with. We can all agree that Steve Jobs was one of the smartest people out there and created something so amazing. You get to learn how he started the mega company that is today, Apple, and everything he had to sacrifice to get to the point that it was at when he passed away. It is a big book but a book that you become enthralled in and want to keep reading.
