July 2019 Reading List
Hey y'all! We are midway through the week and I am feeling overwhelmed by just how much I have going on and by how much I still have to do. We are leaving tomorrow to head down to the beach for the weekend to celebrate my mama's birthday. Which I am excited about to get out of Raleigh for a few days but my stressed out self is just freaking out a little bit. Can we talk about how it is already the end of July! How crazy is that! I feel like just yesterday I finished my semester of classes and summer break was starting but now I am 3 weeks away from my last semester of classes starting. SO CRAZY!
It has been a hot month since I have put together my monthly reading list and that is truly because I have actually had the time to actually read some AMAZING books! I am a huge bookworm and love to sit down and just dig into a book and get fully immersed into it. Since I have been home for a month and not traveling, I have been able to sit down and read some books and since it is the end of the month, that means it is time for me to share with y'all all that I read. Hope y'all find a new book to go out and read!
What have y'all been reading recently? Do y'all have any good book recommendations that I should try out?
~WE OWN THE SKY BY: LUKE ALLNUTT | Rob Coates is a survivor. He’d thought he’d won the lottery of life—a beautiful home, an incredible wife Anna, and their precious son Jack, who makes every day an extraordinary adventure. But when tragedy befalls his family, Rob becomes his own worst enemy, pushing away all he holds dear. With his world now suddenly just outside of his grasp, Rob turns to photography, capturing the beautiful skyscrapers and clifftops he used to visit—memories of the time when his family was happy. And just when it feels as though there’s nowhere left to turn, Rob embarks on the most unforgettable of journeys to reclaim the joy and love he thought he’d lost. This book kept catching my eye and I finally decided to take the plunge and buy it. This is definitely a book that needs to be read with tissues because at certain points it will hit you hard. I related to the story because of what Rob Coates goes through with his son and cancer and everything he feels. If you have experience with cancer, you can relate to it too because you know the emotions he is going through.
~NOTHING LESS BY: ANNA TODD | Book 2 of a new series featuring After worldwide fan-favorite Landon Gibson as he leaves Washington to navigate love and life in New York City. At the end of the After Ever Happy, Landon got married—but readers everywhere have been wondering who will get to call the nicest boy in the After series their forever love? Y'all know I am a huge fan of the After series and Anna Todd and I was so excited to finish the Landon Gibson books and finally see how this whole story ended off. I was so happy with the ending of this and all my questions were answered! Absolutely loved getting into the head of this character and seeing him happy.
~THE WEDDING DATE BY: JASMINE GUILLORY | Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist. On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend....After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other....They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want.... I had heard and heard and heard about The Wedding Date and finally decided it was time to read it for myself and I am so glad I did. The story goes back and forth between the two main characters but it is intriguing to read because this one crazy moment leads to all these events and this one beautiful life-changing event that makes it all beautiful and worth it. It made me really happy to read this because, to me, this is what relationships are like today. Having to balance all the factors of distance, demanding jobs, friends, family, and so much more.
~BEFORE BY: ANNA TODD | BEFORE Hardin met Tessa he was a raging storm. DURING those first moments they met, he realized he needed to keep her for himself—his life depended on it. AFTER they got together, the world would never be the same.Hardin and Tessa’s dramatic love affair became a vortex pulling in everyone around them. For the first time these others are given voice as they appear before, during, and after the events in original After novels. Alongside them, Hardin’s account of his first encounters with Tessa—which will change what you thought you knew about the brooding boy and the angel who loved him. Once again had to finish off the After series and after reading the Landon Gibson books, this was the last one. Anna Todd did a fantastic job of tying everything up into one little bow and perfectly ending it. You get to see where all of the main characters are and what they are doing now and even farther into the future for Tessa and Hardin! Definitely so satisfying to read this and see Hardin's perspective on some of the events.
~BECOMING BY: MICHELLE OBAMA | In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same. I am not kidding when I say that this might be my favorite book EVER. And I am not just saying that because who wrote it and she is such an influential person to me. But because getting to learn about her childhood and how she grew up in Chicago and all the things that she accomplished is simply amazing. This was definitely a book that I could not put down and made me love Michelle Obama even more. Michelle wrote this so beautifully in that it has you fully entranced with her life and wanting MORE!
If y'all have any recommendations for books that I should read, please let me know. I am in such a book reading phase right now that I am interested in reading anything out there.
As always thank y'all for stopping by and reading! I will see y'all back here next time!
Love, D
