7 Things I've Learned About Myself From Living Alone

Hey y'all! Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a fantastic week and has a great weekend ahead of them or maybe just a relaxing one. I have a lot of stuff I need to get done but I so badly just want to veg out and watch TV. I know I probably say that every week before the weekend hits but I seem to always be on the go right now and having to do 5 million different things. Theres just not enough hours in the day but what am I gonna do!

I don't know if I have ever really shared this but I live in my apartment alone and do you want to know a secret... I LOVE IT! Now would it be nice to have someone here like a significant other or a roommate every once in a while, sure, but at the end of the day I am thankful for having my own personal space to come home to and relax. On a daily basis, I am surrounded by a lot of people and love it but sometimes you just need to take a breath and be able to hear your own thoughts and do the things you want to do. I love having my home be all mine because I can do whatever I want to. I don't have to share the remote with anyone, I can watch all of my TV shows, I can listen to music as loud as I want to, and I can cook and bake with no problems.

Every time I talk to friends who live with roommates, friends, or boyfriends/fiancé/husband, I realize one thing. I love living alone! Now does it concern be a little bit that I have gotten SO used to living by myself that I have ZERO motivation to change it-- yeah maybe just a little but. There are some great perks with living by myself but there are also some downsides. Like having to be responsible for EVERYTHING. As in there is no food in the fridge, you have to pause your Netflix and get your butt up off the couch and go to the store. And yes, those bills are yours that you have to pay every month.

I Can Be As Messy As I Want To Be

Okay so I am honestly like a neat person and am very organized but sometimes I just have stuff everywhere and I love that I don't have to fight with someone on how messy I am sometimes. So its a good thing and a bad thing honestly. When I look around and see that it is messy, I only have myself to blame because I am the only one living here and am the one who has to live with it. I’m all over the place and am always working on some sort of project for the blog. Plus, with blog packages and products being delivered all the time, there’s is almost always a pile of boxes, packages, clothes, etc. to be sorted through, donated or tossed.

I Love And Watch Whatever TV I Want To

This is my #1 favorite thing about living alone. I can watch whatever I want without hearing any complaints! I can watch my sappy, sad movies and cry all I want or watch my hockey games or even my favorite TV shows without arguing with someone on what to watch next or that it is their turn to watch their shows. I absolutely laying on amazingly comfortable couch and falling asleep watching my favorite Netflix show!

Sometimes I Work Way Too Much/ Have A Rough Day

One thing you will learn about me is that I am 1. An overachiever, and 2. Like to stay busy. Both back fire in my face a lot because I get worn down really quickly but I like staying busy and feeling like I actually accomplished things in my day because it keeps me super motivated. But this also means that I rarely take a break but its super easy to just sit on the couch with something playing on the TV and just getting immersed in blog or school work. If I have a rough school day, I completely just want to not be around people anymore and be in my own thoughts.

I Desperately Crave Alone Time

Calling all introverts, your favorite introvert is right here! I am 100% an introvert even though I don't seem like it but I would so much rather hang out in my apartment by myself for hours. Everyday I am surrounded by a lot of people and have to interact and work on different projects and assignments, so it is AMAZING to come home and not talk to a single person. Now am I aware that living by myself makes me being an introvert worse, yes I am very aware! So to get out of my habits sometimes I will of course plan trips with friends or simply go to hockey games or out to dinner with friends to get out of my own introvert ways.

I've Learned To Cook, A Lot

Now I love to cook anyway but living alone means that I am the sole person that is cooking for myself. I have been able to try so many different recipes and really find what I like and what I don't like. I will say though it has led to me, maybe, making some things like brownies and stuff like that that I don't need to be making or eating. As I have gotten older, I am realizing that I need to eat healthier and the way to do that is cooking a lot at home and using fresh ingredients.

I'm Basically A Handyman (Or At Least Know A Lot About It)

Before I moved into my place alone, I was already really good at fixing things by myself, but now living alone I could basically be a handyman. Nah I'm just kidding, but I definitely have a general understanding of tools and what can fix what and how to fix simple things. Now am I the person to fix the A/C and heat or electrical outlets or plumbing issues, nope that is what the handyman in my building are for and Manny and Alex are fantastic at that stuff!

I've Learned How To Clean Properly

Okay let me start out by saying that I would rather do anything else in the world than clean. Like honestly, I can't stand cleaning. But having my own place means that I have to do it and I have gotten pretty good at it. You really learn what tools to use and what products should be used on what surfaces. On a regular basis, I do not clean I will be really honest about that but when people are coming over or things start to look really bad that is when I will clean.

Do any of y'all live alone? What do you like about it?

As always thank y'all for stopping by and reading! I will see y'all back here next time!

Love, D
