3 Reasons You Should Be Writing About Your Feelings

Hey y'all! HAPPY FRIDAY! How was everyone's week? I am super, super excited for this weekend because we actually have a long weekend and it is actually going to allow me to get a head start on school work, blog and vlog stuff, and have some fun at the same time! I don't know what it is but I have been super tired this whole week even though I have been getting really normal sleep and eating and drinking well. I think it might be all the time during the day spent out in the cold but who knows.

Today's post is something I have been meaning to share for a long time now but have been a little nervous to put it out there. Feelings aren't really my strong suit but I am working on it and something that helps me a ton is physically writing them down on a piece of paper. So lets hop on into it!

Before I started blogging, I always had a journal of some kind that I would write down all of my feelings, events of things that happened, my happy moments, and of course my not-so-happy moments. Every time I pull out my old journals and read them I always laugh because it takes me back to when I was younger and I do mean like 8-10 years ago! I’ve always been a big believer in writing about your feelings. Putting your feelings into words can actually produce therapeutic effects in the brain. So here’s 3 reasons for why I think you need to start writing about your feelings!

1. You can connect and relate to others- I don't know about y'all, but there is nothing that makes me feel more normal than when someone else says, "no way, me too!" There is just something about knowing you aren't the only one that instantly makes you feel comfortable. For me, its also the feeling of someone else understanding the struggles, situations, experiences, and thoughts. As humans we hate to feel alone, so thats why relating to others and connecting with others is important. It makes us feel just a little bit more normal!

2. It's kind of like venting- Verbalizing what we are thinking about and our feelings make our anger, sadness, loneliness, and pain just a little less intense. I love to write down what I am feeling because it gets it out of me and to be able to see it on a piece of paper, lets me think through everything. It helps to actually process everything. It's almost like talking to a therapist-- getting all of your feelings and thoughts out before you take action. We all go through things, but the ups and downs are all part of our stories that have molded each of us into a smarter, better, and stronger person.

3. You remember and learn- There is no better teacher than pain and I know we all wish it wasn't that way. I am old school and love the phrase, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me," as well as "You live and you learn." All the decisions we make shape us and our lives for the rest of time. It's important to remember that all of our decisions are molding us into who we are supposed to be!

Who else uses some kind of journal to write about their thoughts and feelings? If you have never tried it before I seriously suggest trying it and see how it works for you.

If y'all have any ideas or things you would like me try please let me know I am in a super creative mood and want to try some new things!

As always thank you for stopping by and reading and I will see y'all back here next time!

Love, D
